Foot Biomechanics
The human foot is a complex and compact structure with a number of small bones, ligaments, tendons and muscles. The aim of this structure is to facilitate movement, stability and the deceleration of the forces we place on our body during walking, running and other physical activities.
Due to this it is not surprising that we get pain and injuries in our feet, legs and lower back as a result of dysfunctional movement.
A biomechanical assessment and gait analysis is a visual way of assessing these abnormalities when both weight baring and non weight baring. Observations when walking and the assessment of footwear enable the clinician to diagnose and prescribe an appropriate treatment plan. This can range from conservative treatment, footwear advice, orthotics (Insoles), exercise programme or a referral to other professions such as Physiotherapists and Podiatric surgeons.
