What is podiatry?
Podiatry is the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the foot and lower limb. Podiatrists are qualified to treat people for general foot care needs such as hard skin, corns and nail care but also those with arthritis, diabetes, nail surgery and sports injuries.
Podiatrists work with people of all ages but provide a particularly important role in helping older people to stay mobile and, therefore, independent. A podiatrist specialises in the treatment of common foot complaints such as:
- corns & bunions
- thickened toenails
- ingrown toenails
- fungal infections
- calluses & verrucas
- athlete’s foot
- dry & cracked heels
- flat feet
- heel pain
- gout
- sport related injuries
- bio-mechanical issues
- orthotic fitting
- diabetic foot assessment & care
